The Dolomites are the largest lime stone climbing area in the Alps, with walls looming as tall as 1600 Meters (5250 ft) above gentle alpine meadows. Consequently, there is an abundance of classic routes, most of which can be reached with fairly short hikes from the road or with an overnight in one of the rustic huts or mountain lodges.
